Having delivered training, translation and sign language since 2000, WealdBSL was established in 2015 as a training provider. We have successfully delivered Deaf awareness courses and workshops in London and the South East as well as nationwide. We are also an accredited centre with Signature, which enables us to provide recognised certification of British Sign Language for those wishing to learn the language. All of our courses are delivered remotely when necessary or in the classroom where possible.
We offer BSL translation from English to BSL or vice versa and can offer a quick turnaround if projects are required at a short notice. This can be across a variety of media including websites, information boards, webinars, online training or any medium that can provide accessibility for Deaf people.
We are passionate about inclusivity and accessibility for all. Our aim is to reach as many people as we can, providing guidance and support to create awareness, accessibility and to encourage those interested to learn sign language.
We aim for our workshops and courses to be fun, friendly and flexible. Our team work hard to raise the profile of sign language with our learners, to allow them to recognise it as a beautiful, expressive language.
Most importantly, we aim to break down barriers to improve communication for everyone. A wonderful historic example of this is Martha’s Vineyard in America. Due to the high number of families on the island with Deaf members, residents used sign language to communicate, whether Deaf or not, from the early 1800s to the 1950s. Research shows that elements of the sign language used originated here in the Weald! This is such a lovely example of the potential to live or work together without barriers, and that is the basis of our vision at WealdBSL.
As a Deaf-owned organisation, inclusivity is not just a value — it is our lived experience. We are passionate about creating environments where Deaf and hearing people can learn, communicate and thrive together. Whether through teaching, workshops or translation, our goal is to ensure that everyone feels welcome, understood and supported.
We believe that true accessibility goes beyond compliance — it is about removing barriers, opening doors and ensuring equal access to communication. Through high-quality teaching and professional BSL translation, we work to make information, services and learning accessible to as many people as possible.
We are dedicated to raising the profile of British Sign Language. Our workshops and courses are designed to be fun, friendly and flexible, helping learners recognise BSL as a rich and expressive language with its own culture, history and community. Our Deaf teachers with over 25 years’ combined experience, are passionate about sharing their knowledge and lived understanding of Deaf culture.
Translation is central to our mission. Our team of skilled translators and editors work directly with BSL to ensure that every video, workshop or learning resource is not only accurate, but culturally authentic and fully accessible. We approach translation with care, clarity and respect for the communities we serve.
Improving communication for everyone is at the core of our vision. We draw inspiration from powerful examples like Martha’s Vineyard in America, where both Deaf and hearing residents used sign language from the 1800s to the 1950s — creating a barrier-free community. Research even suggests that aspects of the sign language used there may have roots in the Weald, connecting our local history to a remarkable story of inclusion.
This spirit of shared communication is the foundation of our work at WealdBSL. We believe in a future where Deaf and hearing people can interact naturally, confidently and without obstacles.
As a Deaf-owned organisation, we’re proud to work alongside a fantastic team of professionals who share our passion for high-quality teaching, training, translation and accessible communication. Our Deaf BSL teachers bring over 25 years’ combined experience, along with a deep commitment to BSL and Deaf culture. With an editing team skilled in working directly with BSL content, we ensure every video and resource is created with clarity, inclusivity and authenticity at its heart.
